About

Aidan Lapp (b. 2000, Los Angeles) is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Working primarily on paper, he makes portraits of friends, family, lovers, and himself through extended sittings from life. His graphite drawings retain the corrections, shifting contours, and physical charge of these encounters. Later, in the studio, thin oil stains introduce the color and atmosphere he remembers afterward. Drawing is a complete encounter in its own right, central to his interest in presence, honest representation, and the relationships formed through sustained looking. His work draws on a lineage of observational figuration that includes Alice Neel, David Hockney, Larry Stanton, and the School of London.

Lapp received his BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in 2023 and has held fellowships with Ox-Bow School of Art and Pratt Institute Editions. In 2026, he presented Hold Still, a solo exhibition at AuxierKline in New York, and completed a residency with Drop Everything on Inis Oírr, Ireland, where he portrayed the late knitter Mairéad Bn. Uí Fhlátharta’s family and collectors wearing her sweaters. Alongside his studio practice, he curated SOOT: Works on Paper, bringing together thirty artists under thirty in New York.
